The World War II Memorial

The World War II Memorial honors the 16 million who served in the armed forces of the U.S., the more than 400,000 who died, and all who supported the war effort from home. Symbolic of the defining event of the 20th Century, the memorial is a monument to the spirit, sacrifice, and commitment of the American people.

The thing i like about this monument is that the designers managed to turn a very ugly memory into a beautiful monument which will reminds us of what happened and the people we lost but in a nice way.

Roger Narboni  was one of the people who started applying lighting as an art in France. When he studied lighting he realized that it has a great relation with humans and emotions so he wanted to apply it as art throw the available technology, at first no company agreed with him so he started his own organisation and exhibitions until he started to become well known in this field in France. He had a theory about lighting a whole city together as a group and to work on the general topography of the city, the first one he did was “Montpelier”. Today nobody questions the idea of drawing up a lighting plan for an entire city.

In his projects he tries to take interest in what people feel, he tries to convert the culture of the city into practical work by listening to what people feel of their city and apply that in his lighting.

One of my favorite projects done by Roger Narboni which links between lighting and emotions is the “Design Centre of Peugeot Citroen” in Velizy. It is a presentation room which has an enormous amount of lighting but with no visual disturbance for the people inside. This place is designed so the visual conditions in the room doesn’t change at all regardless of whatever happens outside “Blind Room”. I think it is amazing because when people enter this room they feel that they are in a different world. According to Roger “When you are inside, you are almost in a state of weightlessness. You`re floating. You are in a world that is always exactly the same. If you leave it and it is night outside, your brain simple can`t make the adjustment. There is nothing like it in the world.”

1) The bridge between Rion and Antirion, Greece.

2) Notre Dâme in Paris.
